KIEV, Ukraine –  About 15,000 people have taken part in a torch-lit march across Ukraine's capital, Kiev, to commemorate fascist WW2 leader Stepan Bandera.

Bandera is  glorified by many in Western Ukraine as a freedom fighter and dismissed by millions in Eastern and Southeastern Ukraine as a traitor in the Soviet Union's struggle against the occupying Nazi German army. Carrying torches, the nationalists/fascists marched Wednesday night to mark his 105th birthday.

The march, which was organised by  the Svoboda and Right Sector neo-fascist parties, has become traditional in the past few years. Participants walked along the central Kreshchatyk Streets, carrying party flags as well and the red-and-black flags of the "Ukrainian Insurgent Army", which fought during WW2 against both the Soviets and the Nazis for Ukraine's independence. Many people in the crowd carried the portraits of Bandera, who remains one of the most extreme ideologists of right-wing and nationalist movements in Ukraine. Bandera, first arrested by the Germans when they invaded in 1941 was later released and given an office and finance in Berlin having agreed to organise resistance to the unstoppable advance of the Soviet Red Army after the Nazi defeat in Stalingrad in 1943.

The parade was marked by fierce expressions of racist Russo-phobia and threats against the self-declared People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in the former eastern oblasts of Ukraine which have been the scene of civil war conditions and atrocities by Nazi elements throughout the summer of 2014 which has resulted in more than 3,600 deaths and up to one million refugees. Most of the casualties have been civilian and at least 2,500 people have been killed from indiscriminate shelling of civilian centres in Donetsk and Lugansk by Kiev Junta forces. The latter comprise regular army units, as well as neo-Nazi paramilitaries belonging to the so-called National Guard and various private militia (death squads) run by pro-Kiev oligarch figures, such as Igor Kolomoisky.

Both Washington and Brussels have obfuscated this terror campaign by affecting to give it legality by referring to the Kiev regime as the "government of Ukraine". They  have also amplified Kiev’s diversionary propaganda accusing Russia of covert aggression and destabilising the Donbas regions. Moscow has consistently denied any involvement; and Western governments, the Kiev regime and NATO have not produced a shred of verifiable proof to support their tendentious claims against Russia.

The event, no surprise, went totally unreported by the Western Whore Press and TV who have been giving political cover to the Kiev Fascist Junta led by Yatsenyuk and other agents of Washington since they overthrew the Constitution and legal government of Ukraine in a US financed Coup d'Etat in February last year.

Leading US politicans such as Warmonger John McCain, soon to be appointed Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Assistant Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, whose husband is a leading Neo-Con, made frequent visits to Kiev in advance of the  February Coup with Nuland later boasting in a leaked phone call that the US had spent
$80 million in funding Opposition groups who stirred up the so-called "Maidan revolution" last year which provided cover for the Coup in February.

Much of the infrastructure of Donetsk and Lugansk, the main cities in the Donbas region, has been destroyed, coal and food supplies are disrupted, and the Kiev Junta froze government pension and other payments to the region in November. With brutal winter conditions approaching, risks of starvation and death are becoming too real. As the United Nations and Amnesty International has put it, a humanitarian crisis is looming.

But, recent statements by Col. Oleksiy Nozdrachov, Ukraine's chief of military and civilian cooperation in eastern Ukraine, show disturbing signs of Kiev's attitude toward this crisis trying to take advantage of a humanitarian crisis as a political opportunity.

Kiev's strategy, as outlined by Nozdrachov in USA Today, a leading Neo-Con journal, is to continue withholding government services from the rebel-held areas in hopes that increased suffering will turn the local population against the separatists. “This shows the population in the occupied territory that the situation under the Ukrainian government is much, much better,” Nozdrachov said. This is a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions which outlaws collective punishment of civilian populations in zones of conflict whether war has been declared or not and shows once again the contempt of the Kiev Junta and its allies in Washington and Brussels for international law which they constantly proclaim their allegiance to in public.

In addition, an Amnesty International report posted Dec. 24 said pro-Kiev “volunteer battalions are increasingly blocking humanitarian aid into eastern Ukraine in a move which will exacerbate a pending humanitarian crisis.”
